Ah that's crazy Michelle! I can just imagine. We went to a floating school yesterday. It was pretty depressing the way some people have to live! It was so smelly too!

We had a similar experience in Cambodia when we decided at last minute to take a boat trip out to a floating village. We didn't anticipate how much the boat trip would cost and spent all our cash just getting on the boat. (And for Cambodia it cost quite a bit!) Then once they had us captured on the boat they made us go to a floating orphanage and asked us to buy things to donate to the children (except we had NO CASH left, so they made us feel bad for not buying anything) then they made us get on a café/souvenier boat, which again we couldn't buy anything from ... the boat drivers got shitty with us and drove us back to shore then told us how much we should tip them, which we didn't because we still had no cash. It was pretty deflating.
We since found out that the company/big wig (which is not even Cambodian owned) that runs the boat tours takes a large cut of what we paid and the drivers get a pretty measly weekly wage. Somewhere in the vicinity of $2 a week. I think some things were lost in translation in terms of them being a bit pushy, but we now feel a bit bad for not being able to tip them.

Thanks Kelsey and Aaron! :) We're having an awesome time! We haven't tried banana pancakes, but will! Tomorrow we are going to Phang Nga Island (James Bond Tour), so should be fun! We hope to go to Fantasea or Simon Cabaret, which someone had recommended. Will definitely check out Banglar Rd. We leave Thailand late Monday night, so still a few day to go!

When we get back, we'll have to sit down and all organise a holiday together!

Aaron and I are loving your daily posts Josh :) makes us feel like were back there. Sounds like you guys are having a good time. Walk all along the main beach strip in patong, so much to see and do, restaurants are more expensive but nicer along the beach, cheaper ones down the allyways. On the beach there's always woman letting off good luck lanterns. Maybe go down banglar rd after tea if you have time, it's so bright and busy at night, lots of pubs and clubs either side, lots of lady boys down there, people trying to sell you stuff, photos with animals and 100's of people will try get you into there 'shows' haha, bit crazy but it's only a short strip. Have you had the banana pancakes yet? Soo yummy, your choice of filling, all little stalls along the road. Are you guys going to James Bond island? We enjoyed that so much more than phi phi. Planing on seeing fantasea? How much longer do you have left? We felt we could be there for a month and still have plenty to see and do, glad your enjoying it :).

Hey Michelle! It seemed that the elephants were treated very well, as Tam spoke about how much they respect them.

Will definitely try more street food tomorrow! Today we are off to Phi Phi Island.

These photos really make me want to go back to Thailand!! Especially back to the Elephant Sanctuary we "volunteered" at. I hope your Elephants were treated well. They're such beautiful creatures & intelligent.
It looks like you guys are having a wonderful time. We didn't go to Phuket so I don't have any suggestions for you except to say "eat some street food!" Om nom nom nom nom :)
Take Care Guys.
